A word of advice - travel distances in Namibia, whilst not being huge, take longer than Google Maps suggest, as the majority of roads you travel on are gravel.

Travel distance: Approximately 220km, main roads.

Collect your vehicle upon arrival and drive to Okonjima Private Game Reserve, home of the AfriCat Foundation. The reserve offers many activities that will delight and educate even the most experienced of travellers. You can witness some of the Foundations' work, which is committed to researching and rehabilitating Namibia's threatened wild cat populations. With an abundance of animal and birdlife and spectacular scenery, Okonjima is a photographer's paradise. Activities include nature drives, AfriCat carnivore care project, leopard tracking, endangered species safari drives, and night drives.

Luxury - Plains Camp Classic Room or similar (dinner, bed & breakfast & 2 activities - leopard tracking activity & standard safari drive)

Travel distance: Approximately 350kms, good main roads.

Travel to Etosha National Park, Namibia’s iconic wildlife destination and one of Africa's largest national park. The park surrounds a parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan, which shimmers with mirages during the heat of the day. Waterholes in the park support a diversity of mammals and birds, including endangered species such rhino and cheetah. Your lodge for the next two nights is located on the eastern side of the park.

Travel distance: Approximately 180kms, good dirt roads through the national park.

After sunrise you travel through the park to another lodge, enjoying the sight of pronking springbok and playful animals announcing the start of another glorious day. The dense stands of mopani forests support a large variety of browsers and specialised predators such as leopards, while it offers a variety of migratory as well as non-migratory bird species safe cover and nesting sites. Your lodge in central Etosha is located just outside the Von Lindquist Gate.

Travel distance: Approximately 330kms, good main roads.

Drive from Etosha into the stunning rocky desert landscapes of Damaraland, famous for its desert elephants and other desert-adapted wildlife. At its heart is /Ui-//ais, also known as Twyfelfontein, a World Heritage site with one of the largest concentrations of rock engravings (petroglyphs) in Africa. Over 2,500 engravings over 2,000 years old are set on a stunning hillside amongst red sandstone boulders. Guides take visitors to view the amazing engravings including elephants, lion, giraffe and kudu – all which once drank from the spring (fontein) found at the base of the hillside. Close by are the interesting geological formations of ‘The Organ Pipes,’ ‘Burnt Mountain’ and the Petrified Forest.

Travel distance: Approximately 325kms, good dirt roads.

Drive through the desert to Swakopmund, via the Skeleton Coast, stopping at a shipwreck close to Henties Bay and visiting the Cape Cross Seal Colony, where thousands of seals congregate on the beach. Swakopmund is an historic seaside town where the German colonial influence still permeates. Soak up the atmosphere or participate in one of the many adventure and sight-seeing activities on offer including quad biking and sand boarding and a living desert tour.

Travel distance: Approximately 400kms, combination good dirt roads and main roads.

This morning you travel into the Namib Desert, the oldest desert on Earth. Your lodge is surrounded by the Naukluft Mountains, one of the most striking mountain ranges found in Namibia. Sossusvlei is home to the highest sand dunes on Earth and the surreal environment of flat gravel plains contrasted with the apricot colored majestic sand dunes will enchant you. Your activities will include a visit to the fantastic Dead Vlei with its white clay-baked pan surrounded by the highest dunes in the desert as well as the rugged Sesriem Canyon, a gorge created by the force of the Tsauchab River.
